What is inside
This is a practical guide of about 20 pages, built around calculations rather than opinions. You get worked examples with stated assumptions, ready-to-print templates and checklists, and plain language about risk. It covers expectancy and break-even win rates, position sizing for EURUSD and gold, drawdown and losing-streak maths, leverage and margin calls, trading costs, a trading plan and journal, psychology rules, a scam checklist and a 30-day plan.
Who it is for
Beginners who have not yet funded a live account, and early traders who have already lost money and want to understand why. It is not for anyone looking for a shortcut: the guide says plainly that profit is never guaranteed, and that for most people the sensible first goal is to avoid losing the account.
Three sample insights
1. Recovering a loss takes more than the loss. The deeper the drawdown, the larger the gain needed to get back to even:
| Drawdown | Gain needed to recover |
|---|---|
| −10% | +11.1% |
| −20% | +25% |
| −30% | +42.9% |
| −50% | +100% |
| −75% | +300% |
| −90% | +900% |
2. A high win rate does not mean profit. A trader who wins 60% of trades but loses on average twice as much as they gain per winner, with $1 costs on each trade, loses $3 per trade on average. A trader who wins only 45% of trades with a 2:1 reward-to-risk ratio can come out ahead. The guide shows the full calculation and a break-even table for 1:1, 1.5:1, 2:1 and 3:1.
3. Losing streaks are normal. A trader with a 50% win rate has about an 81% chance of at least one run of five losses in a row somewhere in 100 trades. Whether that run costs 5% or 50% of the account depends entirely on position size.
The first chapter also explains the European rule that obliges CFD providers to publish the percentage of their retail accounts that lose money, and why you should check that figure before choosing any broker.
