What you can download
XM works through several tools, and beginners often mix them up. The XM app is the broker's own mobile app for account management and trading. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are separate platforms made by MetaQuotes, and you connect them to your XM account using a login and a server name. XM also offers a web platform that works in a browser and needs no installation.
Auron FX is an independent guide and not the official XM website. We cannot send you a file, and we do not host apps. The safest path is the official store or the link inside your Members Area. The download button below takes you to the partner page.
XM app for Android
Open Google Play on your phone and search for the app you need, such as XM or MetaTrader 5. Check that the publisher is the right company, and look at the number of installs and the update date. Tap Install and wait for the download to finish.
If an app is not visible in your country on Google Play, open the download link from inside your Members Area, where XM shows what is available for your region. Some people look for an XM APK file on random sites. Do not do this. A modified APK can steal your password and your funds. Install a file from outside Google Play only if it comes from your own XM account, and keep "install from unknown sources" switched off afterwards.
XM app for iPhone and iPad
Open the App Store, search for the XM app or MetaTrader, and install it. If the app does not appear, the cause is usually your App Store region or the entity that serves your country. Changing the country of an Apple account affects subscriptions and payment methods, so check the Apple rules before changing it, or use the XM web platform on your phone instead.
MT4 and MT5: install and choose the server
Download MetaTrader from the links in your Members Area. The installation is simple, but the login step is where mistakes happen. Follow these steps.
- Open your XM Members Area and find the trading account you want to use. Note the account number (login), the trading password and the server name.
- Install MT4 or MT5 on your computer or phone and start it.
- Choose "Login to trade account" or "Open an account", and search for the server name from your Members Area. XM server names usually start with XM and end in a number, but copy the exact name for your account.
- Enter the login and the trading password, then press OK. The terminal should show "connected" at the bottom.
- Confirm that the prices are moving, and open a demo account first if you are testing.
MT4 works with MT4 accounts only, and MT5 works with MT5 accounts only. If you created an MT5 account, you cannot log in to it from MT4. You can open a second account of the other type in the Members Area.
Windows, Mac and web platform
For Windows, download the MetaTrader installer from your Members Area. Mac users can use MetaTrader 5 for macOS if it is offered, or the web platform. The web platform needs only a browser, which makes it a good fallback if you cannot install software on a work computer. For help with a first account, see our XM registration guide and the MT4 vs MT5 comparison.
| Platform | Device | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| XM app | Android, iOS | Account management, deposits and quick trading |
| MetaTrader 4 | Windows, Android, iOS, web | Simple, popular, many indicators and robots |
| MetaTrader 5 | Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, web | More timeframes and order types |
| XM web platform | Web browser | No installation required |
Using a demo account in the app
You can create a demo account in your Members Area and connect to it with its own login and demo server. Demo accounts use virtual money, so they are a safe way to learn the order window, stop loss and take profit. Spreads and execution on a demo account can differ from a real account, so do not treat demo results as a promise of real results. Some brokers also close demo accounts after a period of inactivity, so do not rely on one for the long term.
Common errors and quick fixes
- Invalid account: the login, the password or the server name does not match. Copy the server name exactly from your Members Area.
- No connection: check your internet, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or try another server from the list. Some networks block trading ports.
- Server not found: in MT5, search by the exact server name and scan for servers again. Update the app if the list is empty.
- Wrong password: the trading password differs from your Members Area password. Reset it from the account menu.
- App not working after an update: restart the phone, clear the app cache, or reinstall from the official store.
- Account on the wrong platform: an MT4 account will not open in MT5. Create the right account type first.
The app may also not work well on very old operating systems. Update your phone or computer if you can.
First steps after installing the app
Once you are logged in, spend ten minutes on the settings before placing any order. Set a strong passcode or fingerprint lock on your phone, use a unique password for your Members Area, and check which account is active, because a demo and a real account can look almost the same on a small screen. Many beginners place a trade on the wrong account for exactly this reason.
Next, open a chart of one instrument you know, such as EUR/USD or gold, and look at the bid and ask prices. The gap between them is the spread. Try opening the order window on the demo account, set a stop loss and a take profit, and close the trade again. Learn what the lot size means before you use real money: a larger lot moves your balance faster in both directions. Our guide to lots and leverage explains this in plain terms.
Keep the app updated, because old versions can lose connection to the server or hide new features. Avoid trading on public Wi-Fi without a secure connection, and log out on shared devices.
Download safety
Use only Google Play, the App Store or links from your own Members Area. Avoid "hacked", "mod" or "premium unlocked" versions, "profit bots" and files sent in Telegram groups. They are a common route for stealing accounts. Use a unique password, and never share one-time codes with anyone claiming to be XM support. Regulators in Turkey have blocked lookalike XM domains, so a page that only looks like XM may not be XM at all.
